history: Francis @ Marvel wiki

To elaborate more on movie events, sometime in the Avengers' future, several of them end up having children. Natasha Romanov and Steve Rogers have James Rogers; Henry Pym and Janet van Dyne have Henry Pym Jr.; T'Challa and Ororo Munroe have Azari; Thor and Sif have Torunn; and Clint Barton and Bobbi Morse have Francis Barton.

Then, everybody dies.

Specifically, the Black Widow, Captain America, Giant Man, Wasp and Black Panther are killed by the rogue robot Ultron, leaving Tony Stark to take care of their children and protect them. In his attempt to save the children, Tony is unable to save Francis, who survives along with his father and several others called Scavengers in Ultron's home base of power, Ultra City. For about thirteen years, Clint leads the Scavengers, raising Francis in an overrun city, teaching him archery, survival skills, flirting and how to be a leader.

Eventually, Ultron's robots find Clint and Francis when they're out on a scavenger mission. They kill Hawkeye, leaving his son to take up both his name and the mantle of leadership, all while the other Avengers' children are with Tony, hiding away in the Arctic, unaware Francis is even alive.

personality: Let me tell you about Francis' daddy issues.

The only one of the Next Avengers to actually be raised by his parent, Francis grew up with the weight of the world on his shoulders. In a sort of literal sense. After Ultron's attack on the world and destruction of the original Avengers, Clint Barton began gathering survivors in Ultra City, and Francis was with him each step of the way, assisting in keeping the survivors moving and making hits on Ultron's robots. He had to grow up fast, believing -- as his father told him -- that he was the last Avenger, and therefore Earth's last hope against Ultron's power. He idolizes his father and strives to be the kind of man Clint was -- mostly in that he takes the lead and is desperate to fix the world, but also in more lighthearted ways with his flirtatious nature and quick-wit. In some ways, he also blames himself for Clint's eventual death, since he wasn't able to save him when Ultron's robots found them. So he takes his duties keeping the Scavengers alive extra seriously in recompense.

When it comes to others, Francis naturally takes lead. He's argumentative and overbearing, threatening to punch people if they don't listen to him or speak badly of his father's memory. He's short-tempered but smart, using the knowledge he's gained from a life on the run to devise tactics and strategies for guerrilla warfare. He can be cool under pressure, relying on his archery training from Clint to focus and keep his hands steady, but he's still a teenager and not above having outbursts if an attack doesn't go his way or he -- God forbid -- misses.

Like his father, Francis only wants what's best for those he loves and leads, and this also means he's willing to give up his leadership if someone more deserving comes along. The trouble is making sure that person actually deserves to lead. If Francis feels someone can take the reins, he'll hand them over, and be as loyal and strong a follower as he was a leader (with some head-butting thrown in for good measure).

To an extent, Francis also uses his quick tongue to protect himself, relying on snappy comebacks, humour, and the aforementioned violent outbursts to keep from admitting or showing how he's really feeling. As much as he loves his parents, he doesn't like to talk about them because it hurts too much, so he simply doesn't, and shuts down conversation quickly if it veers too closely to Clint or Bobbi.

In that same vein, Francis has no issues with flirting with girls he's only just met, taking pointers from his father in that there is no situation in which one can't try hitting on the ladies. His introduction to Torunn is literally flying out of the sky to save her with a grin and "hey there beautiful" style quip, and he even asks James if she's available after the younger Rogers complains that Torunn is like his sister. Keeping things light-hearted and putting on a cheerful face is another way for Francis to fend off the weight of being a leader at a young age, as well as downplay the impact his father's death had on him.

Though never expressly addressed in canon, it's easy to assume Francis' relationship with his mother. Considering his idolization of his father, Francis more than likely cared deeply for his mother, keeping her memory close after her death. He's protective of her the same way he is Clint, striving to never disappoint her memory. He takes after her with his quick wit and no-nonsense manner, as well as his tendency to challenge people when he feels they're wrong. Thinking about her is painful, but Francis still likes to tell her goodnight before going to bed. He'd always wanted to see outside the city with her someday; part of his amazement when he sees the world beyond Ultra City's walls is that her stories about the world before Ultron are coming true in front of him.

abilities/powers: Expert marksman, trained by his father. Trained scavenger/tracker and skilled in at least basic hand-to-hand combat. Acrobatic and strong for his age, though not superhuman. Is not particularly adept at computers/technology but knows how to take robots apart/destroy them.

third person sample: Checking the fletching on his arrow, Francis crouched low in the shadows, surveying the area below. The robots were moving in toward something, and that was never a good sign. Something was happening, and he needed to know what.

"I'm taking three of you with me; the rest I want waiting in the wings." He glanced at one of his Scavengers, waving her over. "You'll lead the main group underground. If things get out of hand, you move them back to base and pack up. Got it?" The woman nodded and he turned back to the outside, arrow clenched firmly in one hand. "All right then. Let's go."

He knew his way through the walls of the city. He'd been sneaking through them his whole life, after all, through passages and corridors that bespoke an entirely different city overrun by Ultron's robots. Debris and broken homes, the scattered remains of a place humans had once inhabited. It was just another reminder of how easily everything disappeared; he grit his teeth, angry, but pressed on. The sounds of battle echoed through the high-vaulted rooms. Whatever was going on out there, it was big.

Climbing a rubble wall, Francis looked outside to see a group of kids taking on several of Ultron's robots. Idiots, he thought, but waved his Scavengers in. They might be stupid kids, but they were human, and he needed to help them. A flash of gold caught his interest and he looked over to see a girl among them taking the brunt of the assault. Yeah, he definitely needed to help them.

With a flick of his wrist, the Scavengers were moving, taking up positions to help the kids get out of the area. The first one was dragged back through a wall as Francis climbed higher, readying a shot. As soon as the second was grabbed, he loosed his arrows, a grin on his face as the robots stepped back from the explosive weapons while he ziplined down to the girl, extending a hand. His grin only grew wider.

"You ready to get out of here, beautiful?"

The moment she took his hand they were gone, disappearing into the walls as they'd done countless times before.
